The BLUE BOOK is gently and carefully written in a "Question and Answer" format. It's purpose is to help families and congregations heal broken relationships, and affirm the differences that make us human together. It's an extraordinary book about...well, about ordinary people. It is intended for those who know very little about the subject, as well as those whose families and personal lives have been deeply affected by misunderstanding

Billboard Campaign

One day about 60 days ago I was driving downtown in the predawn darkness and your billboard caught my eye. someone you know and love is gay. I thought long and hard about what that meant to me and arrived at the conclusion, after going through the mental checklist of those I know and love, that this fact would not affect my love.

Every day, the same exercise until one day my wife told
me that our 17 year old son had told her he was gay.   wow, what a moment.... thank god I was at least partially prepared.

I am catching my balance but I can assure you our love for this boy is unwavering.

Thank you for preparing me for a critical moment in our families life. we will be turning to you for help in the months and years ahead and our financial support will be forthcoming so you can help prepare others for what will be their defining moment

I am so glad I had the right, and only acceptable reaction at the exact moment it was required.

Please make sure anyone who was responsible for the placement of that billboard knows that they have forever affected the lives of a loving family

"They love their families. They care about their communities. They hope and dream and love just like everyone else. It’s important for parents to remember that when their children are coming out to them, these are still the bright, wonderful, loving, vulnerable, unique individuals you’ve lived with and cared for all their lives."

"No matter what your sexual orientation is, I love you," Lowell assured him.
"My reaction was not that way," Carol said candidly.  "The bottom of my world had fallen out."
"Jason, why are you choosing this?" she'd castigated.  ("I couldn't say 'gay')  "Do you know this is a sin? "He came out of the closet and we went in," she said of the winter months ahead.  "I considered myself a victim; I told no one.  I was totally ignorant, uneducated, judgmental."

Flirting or Hurting?

Four years ago, several boys at Avondale Middle School in Rochester Hills, Michigan, were suspended for sexual harassment. The boys thought they were just flirting.

Educators wrestle every day with the challenge of helping students feel safe in U.S. schools. Violence like the Columbine shootings is only one of the many school safety issues facing students, educators, parents, and policy-makers.

The reality is that school violence takes many forms. An often overlooked aspect of school safety that continues to be a serious problem in the nation's schools is sexual harassment.

Why add Sexual Orientation to a Hate Crimes Bill?

A Detroit postal worker was harassed and beaten at work because he was perceived to be gay and was told by a federal court that, although he had clearly suffered discrimination, "homosexuality is not an impermissible criteria (sic) on which to discriminate" under Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
